Fresh Basil Pesto Sauce Recipe

Description: Use your homegrown basil to make a fresh pesto sauce. Basil Pesto is good on chicken, fish and poultry. You can also put it into your homemade pasta sauce. Or, spread in on a fresh piece of Italian bread.

Serves: Makes about 1 cup


  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves

  • 2 Garlic Cloves

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 Tablespoons grated Romano cheese

  • 1/4 cup Pine Nuts or Walnuts

  • 1/2 cup olive oil

  • Salt and ground Black Pepper to taste

How to Make Basil Pesto Sauce:
  1. Combine the basil, garlic, cheeses and nuts in a blender.

  2. Process to chip and mix ingredients.

  3. With the machine running on the slowest speed, slowly add the olive oil.

  4. Season to taste with salt and ground black pepper.

  5. Continue processing to the desired consistency.

  6. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Note: Leftover Basil Pesto Sauce can be frozen.
