Beets in Orange Sauce Recipe Description

Here’s an old recipe that beet lovers will be glad they tried. Certainly, you will add this Beets in Orange Sauce recipe to your collection of favorite recipes. You can use fresh from the vegetable garden beets or canned beets in this recipe. 

Did You Know? Beets are commonly used as a dye for a wide variety of applications. Early American colonists used beets to make pink cake frosting. And, women in 19th century Victorian England used beet juice to add a red shine to their hair.

Beets in Orange Sauce Recipe Ingredients

4 Tablespoons flour

4 Tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup water or beet juice

1 cup orange juice

4 tablespoons lemon juice

4 cups raw, diced beets

Recipe Directions

  1. Mix together flour, sugar, and salt.

  2. Add water and mix into a smooth paste.

  3. Add orange and lemon juice.

  4. Cook sauce until thickened.

  5. Add diced raw beets.

  6. Cover and simmer for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Serve hot.

Note: You can use canned beets.  If so, cook for only 15-20 minutes.
