Beer Batter Onion Rings Ingredients

2 large, sweet onions

1 cup flour

1 cup beer

2 tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon pepper

dash or two of paprika, optional to add color

3-4 cups shortening or vegetable oil.

Beer Batter Onion Rings Recipe Directions

  1. Peel onions.
  2. Slice into 1/4 inch or large slices. Separate the rings and set them aside on a plate.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add a dash or two of paprika. This will darken the batter, so the onion rings will look more golden.
  5. Gradually mix the beer into the mixture.
  6. Refrigerate the batter for 3-4 hours.
  7. Heat shortening or vegetable oil to 375 ° F.
  8. Dip the onion rings into the batter. Allow excess batter to drip off.
  9. Place several rings into the hot oil.
  10. Cook until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
