French Onion Soup Recipe Ingredients

4 cups thinly sliced Vidalia, White, or Spanish Onions

8 cups Beef Broth

4 Tablespoons Burgundy Wine

2 Teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce

2 Tablespoons Butter or Margarine

Baguette or French bread

Sliced provolone or mozzarella cheese

Directions on How to Make French Onion Soup

  1. Cut several thick slices of baguette or French bread. Leave out in the air to dry, or place in the oven on “warm” until they are dry.
  2. Sautee onions in butter or margarine until tender. Add a little water from time to time as you sauté them, to keep the pan from drying out.
  3. Put all ingredients into a pot.
  4. Bring to a boil. Then, turn it down to simmer for one hour.
  5. Pour soup into crock bowls or soup bowls.
  6. Add a slice of dry baguette or French bread.
  7. Top with provolone or mozzarella cheese.
  8. Set oven to “broil. Place soup into the oven and broil until cheese begins to turn brown.
  9. Serve piping hot.
