There are very few ingredients to prepared Horseradish. It is a very overpowering flavor, so the taste of other ingredients would be lost. What is important in preparing it, is knowing how to handle this strong root.  We discuss that below, before the directions for preparing this homemade horseradish recipe.

Horseradish Recipe Ingredients

10-inch horseradish root

1 Tablespoon white vinegar

2 Tablespoons water

Recipe Directions

  1. Peel a thick, ten-inch piece of horseradish root. You can use a knife or a vegetable peeler.
  2. Chop the root into small pieces.
  3. Put the pieces onto a blender or mini-food processor.
  4. Add a couple of tablespoons of water.
  5. Grind well.
  6. Drain off excess water.
  7. Add vinegar and grind for just a couple of seconds to mix vinegar into the ground horseradish.
  8. Put prepared horseradish into a glass jar or a tightly sealable plastic container.
  9. Refrigerate any leftovers. It will keep for about a month.

IMPORTANT: How to Handle Strong Horseradish:

As you grind it up, there is a strong, overpowering odor. We recommend you have good ventilation in the room. Avoid the temptation to take a long sniff of it.

We also highly recommend, that you use food preparation gloves. If it gets onto your hands, do not touch your eyes or nose.
